Our Founders & Staff

A young organization established in 2004, Pitching in for Kids was inspired by local business owners wanting to give back to the community. Already having established themselves within the community, Carol Troxell and Sara Youngelson decided to take their passion of community involvement to the next level. Starting up Pitching in for Kids (PIFK) has become one of their most exciting adventures! PIFK is ready to launch a new program that is in the early planning stages and will be supported by some of our upcoming events such as our Annual Run for the Kids Disney Half Marathon fundraiser, Comedy Celebration, Tek & Friends Golf Classic, Candy Land, and many new and exciting events and fundraisers.

CAROL TROXELL
A local business owner and the developer of the original Pitching In For Kids golf events, Carol enjoys getting involved. Carol received a BA degree from Messiah College in Grantham, PA. At a young age she was involved in youth ministries and camps as a counselor. In more recent years, Carol has worked with local athletes such as Tim Wakefield, Johnny Damon & Jason Varitek to put together tournaments and parties that have raised well over 1 Million Dollars for the Franciscan Hospital for Children, Ron Burton Training Village, The Teddy Ebersol Red Sox Fields and other children's charities. Carol serves as the President of the Merchant's Association Board at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. She enjoys involving her many business contacts in special fund-raising events that will benefit children in the community. She considers being a liaison between business and charity to be the most rewarding part of her career. "Helping others is what it's all about".

SARA YOUNGELSON
A local Boston business entrepreneur, Sara shares in the passion to work on the development of children in the local community. A graduate of Boston University, Sara started and was chapter director of Best Buddies where she led and involved other students in the lives of young children with special needs. Graduating with a dual degree in photojournalism and special education, she also received her Masters of Education degree from the University of Vermont. Having worked closely with Head Start, she has experienced first hand the financial needs of organizations dedicated to helping children requiring special care. Sara has co-chaired several great fund-raising events in the Boston community and is a strong leader with a passion and commitment to children's organizations.

Our Mission

Pitching in for Kids, Inc. (PIFK) is a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to providing specifically earmarked grants designed to improve the lives of children across the New England region. The founders, supported by their diverse and accomplished volunteer Board of Advisors, raise grant funds by organizing unique special events. These fundraising events are distinguished by both their investor participation in sports-related activities, as well as endorsement and presence of prominent regional athletic figures. Located in one of America’s most successful sports cities, PIFK concentrates its efforts on optimizing fundraising opportunities and minimizing administrative costs through hosting sport-related events!

Tantamount to PIFKs efforts is the notion that children are our region’s most precious assets. As such, they must have access to information, education, recreation and advocacy at every juncture. Disadvantaged children in the New England are finding themselves without necessary resources, especially in this time of state cutbacks and fiscally conservative social program policies. Pitching in for Kids helps to close funding gaps in order to ensure that the identified children will benefit from our carefully targeted grants. These grants are designed to address specific child-related needs, projects or programs. Once a tangible physical or recreational need is identified, PIFK will evaluate each recipient organization to ensure that the entire grant is directed toward the identified need.

Pitching in for Kids encourages children to participate in its unique events to learn crucial life skills, as well as to encourage the spirit of initiative and giving within the community. As an organized and experienced, primarily volunteer, organization, Pitching in for Kids creates fun and lucrative event opportunities that work to enhance the lives, minds and spirits of our region’s children, New England’s greatest assets.
